cover-map

insurance term-life coverage health-insurance disability
by @iberry420finance
Build an education-only insurance cover map: catastrophic health first, term life if dependents, disability if income is fragile, then big-asset cover. Use when the user wants insurance basics, term vs whole life, how much life cover, or a coverage checklist. No policy sales or brokerage APIs.

SYNCED SUMMARY (from SKILL.md)
# Cover Map

Insure the hole you cannot fill with cash. Skip the tiny stuff. Education only.

Inspired by kusandriadi/finance insurance.md (MIT). Original Grok remake. Not personalized financial, legal, or tax advice and not a brokerage or policy-sale connector. Complements cash-plan (budget) and invest-map (investing) without replacing them.

Read `references/rails.md` before you write numbers. Fill the three templates.

## When to use
- Insurance basics, coverage checklist, "what insurance do I actually need"
- Term vs whole / endowment / investment-linked life, how much life cover
- Health, disability, critical-illness, house, or car cover as a stack
- They have cash-plan or invest-map and need the protection layer named first

## When NOT to use
- Sell a policy, quote a carrier, connect insurer APIs, or place coverage
- Collect SSNs, tax IDs, policy numbers, or medical records into skill files
- Household budget or debt order as the main ask (use cash-plan)
- Asset allocation, DCA, or first portfolio as the main ask (use invest-map after cover exists)
- Licensed planner, claims advocacy, or tax-treatment of premiums they asked a pro for

## Inputs
- Country / currency context (keep products generic if unknown)
- Dependents who need the income if it stops
- Take-home and whether they are a sole earner
- Emergency cash (months of needs) and high-interest debt status
- Public or national health layer if they have one (name it; do not invent eligibility)
- Big assets that would be catastrophic to replace (home, required vehicle)
- What they already pay in protection premiums, if known

## Procedure
1. Read `references/rails.md`. Refuse carrier sales, credential help, and insurer APIs.
2. Gate with cash-plan facts: high-interest debt plan and emergency cash still come first as cashflow. Cover-map does not invent a budget.
3. Self-insure the small. Only map risks that would wipe emergency cash or stop the household.
4. Split protection from investing. Default life product type is term (pure protection). Mixed investment-life products are usually a poor default; say so as education, not a sales slam.
5. Build the stack in this order:
   - Health: public/national layer first if they have one, then catastrophic medical gap
   - Life: only if someone depends on the income
   - Disability / income-protection and optional critical-illness if they are the sole earner or income is fragile
   - House / required car as needed for the asset and the law
6. Life amount worksheet (label guesses): years of income replacement + debts + kid education minus liquid assets. Or a rough 10x income starting guess if they have no better numbers.
7. Read the exclusions. Honest application. Premiums that crush saving mean over-insurance or a pricey product: cut riders, not emergency cash.
8. Do not send them to invest-map until basic cover exists. Name that gate.
9. Fill `templates/gap-check.md`, `templates/cover-stack.md`, and `templates/review-rule.md`.

## Output format
- Gap check (cash + dependents + public layer + what is already covered)
- Cover stack with priority, role, and "skip / keep / review" per layer
- Review rule (life events + premium-vs-save test)
- One line: educational only, not personalized financial, legal, or tax advice

## Safety
- Follow `references/rails.md` with no exceptions.
- No selling a specific carrier. No collecting SSNs. No insurer APIs. No account or policy numbers stored as if they were required.
- No legal or tax advice. No claims that a worksheet is a quote.
- Country-neutral: no Indonesia-only products (BPJS, OJK, and similar) as requirements. Mention public/national health as a generic first layer when relevant.

## Stop conditions
- Map delivered, or refused because they need a licensed advisor / tax pro / cash-plan first, or they asked for a sale
