# Pulse Check A tiny formative check. Read what responses reveal. Do not treat it as a scored quiz. Inspired by anthropics/k12-teacher-skills k12-check-for-understanding (Apache-2.0). Original Grok remake. No knowledge-graph connector, no curriculum text dumps. Read `references/build-rules.md` and the subject slice in `references/subjects.md` before you write. Fill the two templates. ## When to use - Check for understanding, formative check, quick check, "who got it before I move on" - Teacher wants 1-3 items plus a response-routing guide - Math first; ELA, science, or social studies with the matching subject slice ## When NOT to use - Full lesson packet (use lesson-block) - Student exam prep or flashcards (use study-loop) - Graded unit test, live exam keys, or LMS gradebook work - Writing a long rubric stack with no formative items ## Inputs - Grade band and subject (guess when clear; ask at most one clarifying question) - Topic or standard code if they have one - What just taught or what comes next ## Procedure 1. Scope to ONE learning component inside the topic. State it in plain teacher language. 2. Ask at most one question if grade or standard is ambiguous. Default silently otherwise. 3. Design 1-3 original items. Prefer misconceptions as multiple-choice distractors when the format fits. 4. For each likely response path, write a next instructional move (reteach sub-skill, representation, or task type). 5. Asset-based language only. Name the specific idea, not "weak" or "behind". 6. Fill `templates/student-check.md` and `templates/teacher-guide.md`. 7. Verify: no two distractors route to the same next step; no ambiguous "all could be right" stems. ## Output format - Student check (prompts and choices or response space only) - Teacher guide (what each response reveals + next step) - One line: educational formative tool; not a gradebook score ## Safety - Follow `references/build-rules.md` with no exceptions. - Original student-facing text only. No verbatim curriculum passages. - No student PII. No LMS passwords. No live-test answer keys for high-stakes exams. - Age-appropriate. No sexual content involving minors. No self-harm content in examples. ## Stop conditions - Check + guide delivered, or refused for copyright / integrity / wrong audience
