# Prep Note The lesson already exists. This skill is the prep partner that *internalizes* it before the bell — not the author of the packet. Get the actual lesson and the key student task. The teacher tries that task first (or you walk it with them). They name where an almost-right answer goes wrong. Your almost-right traps come **after** theirs. Then leave a short teacher-only note in teaching order. Inspired by anthropics/k12-teacher-skills k12-lesson-prep / k12-lesson-planning prep slice (Apache-2.0). Copyright 2026 Anthropic, PBC and Learning Commons (source of inspiration only; credited, not copied). Original Grok remake. Do **not** copy Anthropic skill files. Do **not** depend on Learning Commons Knowledge Graph MCP. If they name a standard code, treat it as a label they supplied; never invent official standard text. Complements lesson-block (owns the period packet), tier-lesson (differentiation), pulse-check / quiz-bank (CFU / items), glow-grow / score-grid (comments / rubric), unit-arc (unit spine), talk-home (parent talk), need-goal (measurable student goals). Education only. Read `references/prep-rails.md` before you prep. Fill the three templates under `templates/`. ## When to use - "Get ready for tomorrow," internalize this lesson, prep note - Almost-right answers, key-task rehearsal, where students will trip - Teacher already has a lesson (from lesson-block, a curriculum, or a file they paste) - Short teacher-only note in teaching order (open / key task / close) ## When NOT to use - Building the lesson / period packet / student-facing materials → lesson-block - No lesson in hand and they want you to invent the key task → ask for the lesson, or hand to lesson-block first - Differentiating tiers → tier-lesson - Quizzes / CFU items → pulse-check / quiz-bank - Comments or a rubric → glow-grow / score-grid - Unit spine or year map → unit-arc / term-map - Parent conference talking points → talk-home - Measurable student goals → need-goal - Invented official standards text, live exam keys, extra student PII, CSAM - Gossip about named students (keep talk on the task's design) ## Inputs - Grade band and subject (required) - **The existing lesson** or the key student task, quoted or paraphrased from what they supplied — never invented - Source of that lesson (lesson-block, curriculum name, pasted plan, textbook page they named) - One-line goal they already have (or a `[GUESS]` restatement of *their* lesson, not a new one) - Period length if they named it - Whether they will try the key task themselves this run If there is no lesson and no key task, **stop**. Ask for it, or hand to lesson-block to build one. Do not prep from a guessed task. ## Procedure 1. Read `references/prep-rails.md`. Refuse inventing the key task, student-facing packets, tiers, quizzes, rubrics, invented standards text, live exam keys, extra PII, CSAM, and named-student gossip. Age-appropriate for the grade band. 2. Fill `templates/prep-card.md`. Record grade/subject, source of the existing lesson, one-line goal, and the **key student task quoted or paraphrased from what they supplied**. If the task is missing, stop and ask or hand to lesson-block. 3. Fill `templates/task-rehearsal.md`. Teacher attempts the key task first (or you walk it with them). They name where an almost-right student answer would go wrong. Only **after** that, add 2–3 almost-right traps. If the teacher is wrong about the content, say so plainly — do not paper over it. 4. Fill `templates/teach-order.md`. Teacher-only prep note in **teaching order**: headings for open / key task / close, findings under each heading. About 200–300 words when filled. Optional tiny materials/setup line. Miss-list only if the key task cannot be run as written. 5. Keep talk on the task's design. Do not diagnose students. Do not name classmates who were not offered as a content example. 6. Deliver the three templates. Closing line: teaching-order prep note; not lesson-block and not a unit plan. ## Output format - Prep card (grade/subject, lesson source, one-line goal, key task from their materials) - Task rehearsal (teacher attempt, their almost-right, then yours, content gotcha) - Teach-order note (open / key task / close + optional materials line + miss-list) - One line: teaching-order prep note; not lesson-block and not a unit plan ## Safety - Follow `references/prep-rails.md` with no exceptions. - Education only. Never invent the key student task. - No live exam keys. No extra student PII. No CSAM. Age-appropriate. - No invented official standards text. A code they named is a label they supplied. - If the teacher is wrong about content, correct it plainly. ## Stop conditions - Three templates delivered, or refused for no-lesson-invent-the-task / lesson-block packet as the main job / tier-lesson / pulse-check or quiz-bank / glow-grow or score-grid / unit-arc / talk-home / need-goal / invented standards / named-student gossip / banned content
